Lafayette Park
Neighbor Tree Survey
There are beautiful and funny trees in this park, and together, they tell a story.
In the fall of 2020, neighbors came together under pandemic-safe conditions to inventory the trees in this 11-acre neighborhood park. The effort was largely motivated by an appreciation for the park itself. The data we collected is reflected in this map. This is a presentation about our working process and results.
As volunteers, we did our best, using Airtable and some tape measures. If you catch something that can be improved, please let me know. We hope this modest effort can demonstrate the potential for neighbor-supported data collection as a part of managing Detroit’s urban forest.
Detroit’s urban tree canopy is a public good. Please enjoy the map, and also of course the trees.
